Yes I know it’s not Christmas yet, but I always have this song on the brain! It’s by Gracie Fields and it’s called ‘The Fairy On The Christmas Tree’. Enjoy

Green Fingers
We are slowly learning the dark art of gardening. Our piece of hallowed ground is part of a larger community plot, this photo was taken on the 5th June 2009, before the assault began!
The border on the left was where a shed used to stand. In front of the fence is a row of Verbena bonariensis. And at the beginning of September 2009, 2000 wildflower seeds were liberally sprinkled over the area which was a mix of Bachelors Buttons, Siberian Wallflower, Garland Daisy, Shasta Daisy, Plains Coreopsis, Larkspur, Sweet William, African Daisy, California Poppy, Perennial Gaillardia, Globe Gilia, Baby’s Breath, Spurred Snapdragon, Blue Flax, Sweet Alyssum, Evening Primrose, Rocky Mountain Penstemon, Prairie Coneflower, Black Eyed Susan and Catchfly.
Above is the back border with the 3 Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’ shrubs. Since then we have planted several Oxalis ‘Iron Cross’ plants. On the 18th September 2009 we sowed some seeds in the back border behind the Pyracantha, though that might not be where the plants, if they grow, stay. The plant is Eryngium giganteum (Miss Willmott’s Ghost) an absolutely stunning Sea Holly.
Eventually we want to cut back the front of the lawn and have a border along there, possibly transfer the Sea Holly to the front.
But for now, we rest!
Crochet Sun Hat
I seem to be developing a sun hat fetish!! This one is crocheted and was very quick to make. I prefer the shape of this one, the knitted one was rather large. I used cotton, obviously, not much point in a sun hat if it isn’t cool! The pattern was taken from a book called ‘Learn To Crochet’ by Sue Whiting, which to be honest, didn’t help at all when I was learning to crochet. But it has some nice patterns in it.
I learned to crochet on the 11th June 2008, so I guess this is a celebration sun hat
From America with Love
Through Ravelry I’ve met some wonderful people, well one certain group in particular…it’s no good you all hiding, I know where you are!! As I’ve been a bit down lately, Linda rallied the troops and sent me a goodie parcel. And I am so pathetic at saying how really grateful, chuffed, happy, thrilled I am. All I can say is feel the lurve and see what I’ve been sent
Bigga Denim Box
This was a joint project that Chris and I worked on together. I did the knitting and sewing, he cut out the cardboard and denim. The idea came from the book ‘Two Balls or less’ by Jenny Hill. We had a ball of Sirdar Bigga in Tudor Rose colourway, this is a seriously chunky yarn that requires 15mm needles. The denim came from a jacket we’ve had for years that doesn’t fit either of us, in fact it’s big enough to go round both of us! As I didn’t have quite enough yarn for 4 sides, I cut out the pocket from the jacket and used that for the fourth, which also serves as useful storage and gives it quite a funky look.
It is a 20cm square, which is actually larger than it sounds and very strong too. And when I say sewing, I mean specifically hand sewing, consequently my fingers are very sore, denim is very tough stuff!
